DNA of a Metropolis

 

An International Concept Design Competition by QUAD studio in 2018 organized by undisclosed developer in Zhuhai to design an Exhibition Pavilion for their development of a New Future Metropolis.

The Setting – Hengqin is an Island in Zhuhai. A prefecture-level city and Special Economic Zone in the Guangdong province. Parts of Henqin was leased to Macau in 2009 sparking off the start of a future international metropolis in the pearl river delta (the Greater Bay Area). By 2030 the Greater Bay Area will be the largest bay area in the world in terms of GDP which made us think, the impact of this future metropolis. DNA of this future metropolis absorbs the best future technologies that industries can provide from all around the world into melting pot of the Hengqin that in turn moulds a city of the future.

The DNA - DNA of a metropolis not only allows the best future technologies can converge in this metropolis and begin to flourish, it represents all walks of life, culture, commercial services, tourism, and many more. These individual components become a unique DNA of the metropolis that in turn grow rapidly into an international metropolis.

The Design – Inspired by the notion of the DNA of a city, the Gallery Pavilion becomes a true representation of this narrative by stitching together all components that makes up this future metropolis. The space becomes a play of many different attributes of a city concentrated into one space in time.

The Future Dining Room – The gallery pavilion has a life span of 5 years. With unobstructed views toward this future metropolis, after the exhibition, the pavilion can reinvent itself as a City Dining Room and a great way to view this city of the future
